Getting links from other web sites to your website is an important part of your day to day marketing activity and the MOST important part of any successful search engine optimization program.
Yes, links will bring traffic to your site but that is not the most important reason for relentlessly pursuing links. In-bound links have a huge impact page rank and how your site performs on the Google search page. A well-linked site is more likely to show up on page #1 of Google than a site with no links and that means traffic which leads to sales. You can build and tweak your content with keywords all day long... but without the links you won't get near page one on Google or any other major search engine. Take a few minutes each day to put these simple tips into practice. Just a little bit each day will start to add up over time to become a significant stream of visitors to your site. - Register with your local Better Business Bureau and Chamber of Commerce and other local business directories and organizations. This might seem obvious but it is frequently overlooked. Not only does it enhance your credibility but believe it or not, they’ll provide links to your site.
- When you are out there getting links for your site don't point them all to your home page. Target links to content deep down inside the pages of your site . Google loves deep linking... it tells then you have something more to offer on your site than just the sales pitch.
- When you are establishing links think about what the anchor text will say (you know, the words people actually click on). Try to get links that use keywords relevant to your site (like: learn more about honeymoon travel options and save money -- instead of just your naked URL or "click here"). Also, be sure to mix it up a bit and don't always use the exact same words for your anchor text.
- Advertise your services and products on Craigslist and other online classifieds. You may never get any direct sales from the site listing but you get a link. Don’t worry about it being a “no follow” link, just check out Google Analytics and note how many people came to check out your site from your Craigslist post. The HUGE amount of traffic on Craig's list almost guarantees that someone will click on you!
- Post comments on other people’s blogs. Think about what types of blogs your potential customers would be visiting . Go to those blogs and start participating. Be helpful, and never forget to sign it by listing your website.
- Join high quality article submission sites like Squidoo.com or ehow.com (you can determine what is high quality by taking a look at their page rank - go for rank of 5 or better). These user-generated websites are a great way to seed the Internet with links to your web site while providing quality information for curious web surfers. Just think of some simple how-to type articles you can write that are relevant to your business or service. Post this content with plenty of deep links back to expanded content available on your website. Don't submit the exact same article dozens of times, 4-5 times is enough. Google does not like or reward duplicate content scattered around the web. It could hurt you in the long run.
- Establish a business or company profile on websites like Linked-in.com or Facebook and start networking. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you start getting a small trickle of traffic. If you have a business blog post links to your latest articles to your favorite social networking sites and get double duty from your work.
None of these ideas by themselves will transform your business. However, if consistently practiced your links will begin to add up over time bringing you both direct traffic and most importan better search engine rankings... and that means business. |
