Local Search Success – 8 Quick Tips

Local search engine optimization is all about getting yourself founding your own home town. If someone is searching for a chiropractor they are looking for an office near their home or business. Ten years ago most folks would crack open the yellow pages and turn to “C” for chiropractor. Today they go online.

Optimize Your Site For Local Search Success:

8 Quick Tips & Tweaks You Can Do Today!

  • The first step is to register for all the major yellow page directories most of which are free. The best appears to be the new options Google offers.

However, there are some additional steps you should take to get the most out of local search. Targeting your site for geographic relevance is not hard. It involves a few simple tweaks to your website.

  • Work your location into your title tags. Instead of Warm Hands Chiropratortry Warm Hands Chiropractors: Raleigh NC’s Friendliest Back Specialists
  • When you mention your location on your pages add emphasis by using bold or  italics. Search engine spiders interpret these as an indication of important content.
  • Re-write your paragraph titles to include location references… Raleigh’s Solution to Back Pain. Why? Because paragraph titles are enclosed in <h1> tags they are interpreted by search engine spiders as very important content.
  • Include your address and phone on every page. If you haven’t already done this, shame on you! Make it happen ASAP.
  • When you are linking to your other pages from your home page work your address into the link. So, instead of linking to a page on your site as Back Health Tips… try Back Health in Raleigh
  • Re-write your meta tags to include geographic information
    • meta name="zipcode" content="27511, 27519, etc,etc”
    • meta name="city" content="Raleigh Durham"
    • meta name="state" content="North Carolina"
    • meta name="ICBM" content="59.10246, -67.59009 – this is your longitude and latitude.
    • You can get this info from a lot of different places online. Just Google “what is my longitude and latitude”.

My last point is not specific to local search results but it is an important element to your success…

  • Think of your website as an advertisement! Its not about you… it’s about your potential customer.
Make sure you sell you business and your service. Get high quality advertising copy written by a pro. Because getting searchers to land on your site is only the first step. Now you have to convince them you are a better choice than your competition… and that competition is only a click away!
